A Foundation Born From an Act of Protection

On 2 January 1964, Chief Superintendent Salifu Dagarti, a Ghanaian police officer and presidential bodyguard, was fatally wounded shielding President Kwame Nkrumah during an assassination attempt at Flagstaff House, Accra — the fifth attempt on Nkrumah’s life since taking power in 1957.

In 2006, his granddaughter, Nana Haja Salifu Dagarti, founded the Salifu Dagarti Foundation in his memory — carrying his act of protection forward into a charitable mission. Today the Foundation promotes education, relieves poverty, advances health, and supports community development for children, older people, people with disabilities and disadvantaged communities, in the UK and internationally across Ghana, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone and India.
